Dibrugarh University, the eastern-most University of the Country was established in 1965 with an objective to promote higher education and research taking into acount the region's potential human and natural resources. Dibrugarh is also close to the major hubs of the oil and the tea industries. The University has created a niche for itself in the academics and research which is recognized by the University Grant Commision, the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, etc of the Government of India. The University has 17 Departments, 21 Centers for Studies with more than 5000 students in its roll.
