The curtain of the yearlong Golden Jubilee Year of Dibrugarh University was drawn with a two day event on June 25 and 26, 2015 during which three orations were organised at the University auditorium-Rangghar and a full statue of Prachyavidyarnava Krishna Kanta Handique was unveiled on the campus. On June 25, 2015, Professor Sitanshu Yashaschandra, an eminent litterateur, Sahitya Academy Awardee and former Vice Chancellor of the Saurashtra University made the first oration on ' Literature: Link between the Private, the Personal and the Public' . "There has been a continuum of literature, society and individual since time immemorial in India. In this continuum there is a constant two way communication between the writer and the reader- it was never a one way linkages" the Padmashree awardee litterateur stated. In the second oration by the Gyanpeeth awardee Shri Bhalachandra Vanaji Nemade, spoke on 'Nativism and Assamese Pluralism'. Shri Nemade emphasised on the invaluable contribution of the native languages in the evolutionary process of race and nation. He also urged upon the protection of the the native languages in a socio-culturally diverse state like Assam. Earlier Professor M. N. Dutta, the Registrar of the University extended a warm welcome to the invited guests, members of the faculties, students and the civil society.
On June 26, 2015, A full statute of Prachyavidyarnava Krishna Kanta Handique on the premises of the Departments of Assamese and History, was unveiled by Justice Shri Amitava Roy, of the Supreme Court of India. In the oration that followed in the University auditorium Justice Roy spoke at length about the evolution of the legal education in India. In the auditorium packed with the members of the University community, judiciary and the civil society, he emphasised on the sacred duty and responsibility of the law graduates in upholding the rule of law in the country through the institutions of the Bar and the Bench.

Professor Alak K Buragohain, the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University felicitated Justice Roy who is a very distinguished alumnus of the University. In response, Justice Roy paid rich tribute to the University and all his teachers in the University. Shri Biren Singha, the sculptor of the statue of K K Handique was also felicitated by the Registrar.
