The 51st Foundation Day of Dibrugarh University was observed on 1st July, 2015 by the University Community. A special musical evening programme was organized under aegis of the Dibrugarh University Teachers' Association (DUTA) where eminent classical Hindustani singer Mrs. Sudarshana Baruah, Assistant Professor, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts performed a Thumri, Meera Bhajan and a Jugalbandi with her students. The spell binding rendition of Mrs. S. Baruah was followed by a superb piano performance by Master Devanga Bidrum Kalita who is a student at the A.R. Rahman’s foundation KM College of Music and Technology, Chennai which is affiliated to Middlesex University, UK. He has also been learning piano at Sabdarupa Music School in Guwahati under the guidance of Mr. Ghana Kanta Deka. Master Kalita is the son of Dr. Kalpana Deka Kalita, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Geology, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Hemchandra Kalita, Vice Principal, Assam Medical College. Master Devanga enthralled the audience with sixteen masterpieces of L.V. Beethoven, Joseph Hayden, Antonio Soler, Ernesto Halffter, Tan Dun, T. Oesten, J.S. Bach, J.F. Burmuller, Carl Niensen, Frederich Chopin, Wolfang Amadeus Mozart. A large number of invited guests from outside the University, besides the University Community were in the audience on the 51st Foundation Day special evening.
Earlier Dr. Pallavi Buzarbaruah, Associate Professor, Department of Assamese extended a warm welcome to the audience on behalf of DUTA. Professor A.K. Buragohain, Vice-Chancellor briefly addressed the gathering. A Vote of Thanks was offered by Dr. Amarjyoti Mahanta, Secretary, DUTA. It may be mentioned that the University observed the year from July 1, 2014 as the Golden Jubilee year during which a number of special orations, colloquia, international conferences, inter-university students' meet etc were organised.
