Workshop on ‘Use of Statistics in Commerce, Economics and Management Research’

The five day Workshop on ‘Use of Statistics in Commerce, Economics and Management Research’ started on July 27th, 2015 at Indira Miri Hall with the Inaugural address by Prof. Ajanta B. Rajkonwar, Director i/c, Centre for Management Studies. Around 40 numbers of participants including Academicians, Research Scholars, Faculty Members from the University and various colleges participated in the workshop. Prof. Rajkonwar emphasized that statistics has a scientific approach to analyze numerical data in order to enable us to maximize our interpretation, understanding and use of statistics in research. She also placed to the august gathering the best wishes conveyed by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain who presently is in Delhi and stated that according to him, this Workshop is just a start and shall become a continuous process in the days to come. Speeches were delivered by Prof. Pranjal Bezborah, Dean, School of Commerce and Management Science, Dibrugarh University, Prof. M. N. Dutta, Registrar, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Rupam Saikia, Director, College Development Council, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Ashit Saha, Head, Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University highlighting the importance of statistics in research and as statistical processing require mathematics, it is an area that is often approached with discomfort and anxiety and observed that the Workshop is in the right direction for the researchers. The topics for discussion in the Workshop are Basic Statistical tools to analyze data in Social Science Research and use of Statistical packages like SPSS, STATA, MICROFIT, MINITAB, R, MATLAB, etc. to be delivered by Resource Persons Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Dean, Students Affairs, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Deba Kumar Chakraborty, Head, Department of Economics, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Manash Pratim Barman, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University.
