The 69th Independence Day of the nation was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Dibrugarh University. The national flag was hoisted at the University playground in the morning by Professor Alak K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor. He took the ceremonial salute in the march past by the 25 platoons representing the various academic departments and the band from the University Model School . Professor M. N. Dutta, the Registrar, the Deans, faculty members, officials, students research scholars, employees and a large number of people from the neighbouring villages participated in the independence day celebration. The Vice Chancellor paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters of the nation and recalled their great sacrifice, dedication and patriotism. He made a special mention to the Non Violent movement of the freedom struggle, which still remains an outstanding ideal before the entire world. While making a fervent appeal to the students and the entire University community, he reminded that the huge responsibility of enhancing the national pride lies on the young generation. They have to live up to this national responsibility by discharging their duties with utmost sense of discipline, dedication, hard work and integrity.
The University students demonstrated their skill in various martial arts during the event. The Vice Chancellor presented special awards to the team of students who won the best prize in the competition for the Golden Jubilee Celebration Logo for the University. An award of appreciation was also given to a student from the University Model School who excelled by occupying one of the top ten positions in the last Higher Secondary School Examination. Friendly football match between the Registrar's XI and the Vice Chancellor's XI and a drawing and painting competition amongst the school children was also held in the Department of Education.
