Eminent Faculty member from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata addresses students at DU

Dr. Alok Goswami, Professor an academician of international repute in the field of Probability Theory visited the Department of Statistics, Dibrugarh University as a UGC Visiting Fellow from 9th August to 15 August, 2015. Prof. Goswami delivered a series of lectures to the First semester M. Sc. (Statistics) students on Probability Theory. Prof. Goswami who has visited many premier Universities and Institutes of India and abroad is widely regarded as one of the top academician among the fraternity of statisticians of our country. He presented the otherwise hard to comprehend issues in the field of introductory measure theoretic probability theory in a very lucid manner. In addition to the students, faculty members namely Prof. S. Chakraborty, Dr. P. Hazarika, Dr. A. N. Patowary and the Research Scholars of the Department also participated in the deliberations. Besides class room sessions, Prof. Goswami was also engaged in interactive sessions with the Research scholars discussing their problems and possible solutions. On 14th August, Prof. Goswami was invited by the Mathematics department where he presented a talk on “Random Graphs” which was attended by the students and teachers of the department.

Prof. Goswami also took time out of his busy class schedule to address the students in the Freshman Social function of the Department of Statistics on 12th August, 2015.
