A two week training Workshop on Entry to the Services for the students aspiring to write the Civil Services Examinations was inaugurated on September 2, 2015 at the Centre for Management Studies. The Training Workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Subhas Chandra Das, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Assam. In his address to the students and the faculty members in the inaugural function, Mr. Das called upon the students to make serious attempts in cracking the examination which is one of the most competitive examinations today. With professional guidance, strategic preparation, perseverance and hard work our students can easily succeed in the Civil services of the country. Reminiscing his own experience in attempting the Civil Services examinations years ago, Mr. Das stated that without any professional assistance how he succeeded in cracking the Indian Forest Service Examination with the First position and thereafter went on to enter into the IAS with the 9th position in the country through his subsequent attempts.
Mr. Apurba Jiban Baruah, IPS, IGP, Central Assam Zone, who attended the function as one of the Guests of Honour, pointed out that the students of the North East has comparatively greater potential in successfully competing in the Civil Services Examination. All they need is discipline, perseverance and diligence in their efforts. He emphasised on discipline in the daily life of all our youth as key to success in life.
Mr. Raj Kamal Bhuyan, a former Assistant Governor of the Rotary International appealed to the students that in addition to the attributes already highlighted by the other two speakers for succeeding not only the Civil Service Examinations, they must be passionate about whatever they do to succeed in life. Care and compassion for others are very essential to serve the people once they enter into the Indian Civil Services, Mr. Bhuyan stated.
Earlier the gathering was extended a warm welcome by Dr. Chimun Kumar Nath of the Department of Commerce who has been successfully organising this programme for the fourth time this year, mentioned that more than one hundred students from the University have registered for this fourth programme in the last two years. He also informed the gathering that one of the participants of this programme organised last year was selected for the Indian Foreign Service besides several others who have been selected to the Assam State Civil Service (Class I). This year besides a few young IAS and IPS officers, faculty members from the Khan Study Group, New Delhi shall conduct the Two week Training Programme as the Resource Persons.
Professor Alak K Buragohain, the Vice Chancellor in his address stated that the nation needs young people with not only knowledge and merit but with integrity and commitment to the land and the people for good governance and for upholding the great heritage and the values of our country.
Miss Akangshmita Goswami, a student of the MBA programme offered the Vote of Thanks before concluding the function.
