The first ever meeting of the College Development Council of Dibrugarh University was held at 'Vikshan' (Conference Hall of Vishranta). Dr. Rupam Saikia, Director, College Development Council, extended a warm welcome to the 24 member council and introduced them to the Chairperson. Professor A.K. Buragohain, Chairperson extended a warm welcome to all the members and stated that formation of the Council fulfils a long standing need and expressed his hope that with the active participation of the members from the various Colleges effective governance of the colleges will be a reality. In his opening remarks Professor Buragohain drew the attention of the members to some of the key issues encountered by the colleges in the higher education sector. He said that radical change is required in pedagogy and assessment in the semester system in order to make it meaningful. ICT can play a critical role in this, Professor Buragohain stated. The Council decided to take 10 Colleges as Model Colleges for handholding towards this end.
Different portfolios, viz., assessment of the semester system, conduct of examination along with examination zones, infrastructure, NSS, NCC and other extension services, adoption of villages, affiliation were assigned to different members of the Council in the form of small committees which will submit reports in the Council Meetings.
