The annual 'Translation Award' 2014 of Sahitya Akademi was given at a glittering function held at the Rang Ghar auditorium of Dibrugarh University on 4th September, 2015. Prof. Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari, President Sahitya Academy conferred the prestigious awards to the following winners of this year- Bipul Deori ( Assamese), Benoy Kumar Mahata ( Bangla), Surath Narzary (Bodo), Yaspaul Nirmal (Dogri), Padmini Rajappa ( English), Late Nagndas Jivanlal Shah (Gujrati), Phul Chand Manav (Hindi), G.N. Ranganath Rao (Kannada), M. H. Zaffar ( Kashmiri), Pandurang Kashinath Gaude (Konkani), Ram Narayan Singh (Maithali), Priya A. S. ( Malayalam), Waikhom Cha Ibotombi Mangang ( Manipuri), Madhukar Sudam Patil( Marathi), Dambarmani Pradhan (Nepali), Rabindra Kumar Praharaj (Odia), Tarsem ( Punjabi), Kailash Mandela (Rajasthani), Narayan Dash ( Sanskrit), Saro Hansdah (Santhali), Ram Kukreja (Sindhi), S. Devadoss ( Tamil), R. Santha Sundari (Telegu), Ved Rahi (Urdu).

In his welcome address K. Sreenivasa Rao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, stated that it is for the first time Sahitya Akademi is organising this Annual Event outside Delhi and on a University Campus. He highlighted upon the importance of Translation as the core process knitting the regional differences in India. Prof. Tiwari in his Presidential Address defined this century as the Century of Translation. He also elaborated the various nuances of translation drawing attention to various critical aspects of the translation process.

Dr. Prathiba Ray, an Eminent Odia Writer was the Chief Guest. Dr. Ray described translation as a complex yet important procedure in literature. She emphasized that translation lessens regional differences in a country as large as India and creates an atmosphere of harmony.

Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice- Chancellor; Dibrugarh University was in the event as the Guest of Honor.

Sahitya Akademi 3

The event was concluded with the presentation of Rajasthani Folk Songs by Anwar Khan Manganiar and his group.

Avibyakti, a special event of the Sahitya Akademi was also organised on 5th and 6th september at the Indira Miri Conference Hall of the University where a number of established and budding poets and scholars deliberated upon the contemporary trends in creative writing in various languages.
