Shri Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, the Hon'ble Governor of Nagaland and Assam and the Hon'ble Chancellor of Dibrugarh University visited for the first time from 29th September, 2015 till 1st October, 2015.
Soon after his arrival at Vishrant- the University Guest House, the Chancellor was extended warm welcome by the entire University Community. At a special reception function organised in honour of Shri P.B. Acharya at Rangghar -the University auditorium, Shri Acharya urged upon the teachers and the students to recall the great ancient heritage of the Indian Civilization.
He said that our students are the greatest assets of the Country. He referred to the fact that even though none of the Indian Universities are ranked amongst the top 200 Universities of the World, it is the Indian Scientists and workers who has a dominating presence such world class organisation as the NASA, the US and at the Silicon Valley, the US. He therefore appealed to the University Community to introspect on this and take up the challenge.
The Chancellor Shri Acharya presided over the 97th Meeting of the University Court on 30th September, 2015 which was held at the Indira Miri Conference Hall of the University. In his special address to the Court Members Shri Acharya called upon the University to extend the benefit of knowledge, technology and skill to the society at large. He appreciated the University for its emphasis on teaching learning and research in the various tribal languages and culture of the region.
The Hon'ble Chancellor emphasized on the creation of the basic infrastructure and facilities for the convenience of the students. He expressed his concerned at the insufficient number of the hostels for the female students of the University and stated that the corporate sectors like the oil, tea and the coal industries of the state must come forward and enable the University to construct hostels for girls out of their corporate social funds.
During his stay on the campus, the Chancellor, Shri Acharya had separate meetings with representative of the Industries, Student Bodies, Civil Society and the representatives of the DU Teachers, Officers, Employees and Pensioner Association.
On 1st October, 2015 Shri Acharya participated along with the Vice-Chancellor, Faculty Members and Students of DU in a Swatchhha Bharat Abhiyan organised by the District Authority of Dibrugarh at Dibrugarh Town.
