Technical Workshop on Theatre Art

A month long Technical Theatre Workshop was organized by the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts in collaboration with National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi from 6th October, 2015 to 4th November, 2015 under the supervision of Camp Director Ms. Rabjita Gogoi an eminent theatre designer and director and a group of eminent theatre experts of the country.

The major objective of the workshop was to provide quality education both theoretically and practically in technical aspects of theatre and to bring awareness among practitioners. Altogether 26 participants from various parts of Assam along with different Departments and Centres of Studies from the University participated in the workshop.

The workshop was conducted by eminent experts of international repute and faculty members from the National School of Drama and other Universities like Professor Robin Das from NSD, Professor Ashok Sagar Bhagat, S. Manoharan, Senior Sound Technologist, NSD, Rajiv Velicheti, Associate Professor, Department of Theatre Arts, University of Hyderabad, R. Nalini Joshi, Costume Designer, Mr. Arun Malik, Mr. Dadul Chaliha, Ms. Rabjita Gogoi, Anupam Kher’s Actor Preparation Institute, Mumbai and Chauti Chakraborty, Light Designer, NSD.

The workshop was formally inaugurated on 6th October, 2015 at the Indira Miri Conference Hall which was attended by eminent theatre personalities, professors and faculty members from various Departments and Centres of Studies of the University. Professor Karabi Deka Hazarika, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences chaired the meeting. On behalf of NSD, Professor Ashok Bhagat formally inaugurated the session. Beside them Camp Director, Ms. Rabjita Gogoi, Dr. Parnjit Bora, Director i/c, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts delivered their valuable speeches.

On 4th November, 2015 an exhibition was held at Aniruddha Bhawan, Department of History which was inaugurated by Professor Niranjana Mahanta Bezbora, Head, Department of Assamese. Various objects, properties, posters, paintings and installations prepared by the students during the period of workshop were displayed. The exhibition was followed by the closing ceremony where Professor Alak Kr. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Professor Karabi Deka Hazarika, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Pranjit Bora, Director i/c, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts, Professor Robim Das, Professor Rajiv Valecheti and Ms. Rabjita Gogoi addressed the gathering. The program came to an end with the distribution of certificates and gifts to the participating students.
