A Convention of the College Principals, Vice Principals, Nodal Teachers and the Student Coordinators of the various Departments and Centers for Studies of Dibrugarh University and the Colleges of Dibrugarh district affiliated to Dibrugarh University on the Partnership Initiative of the Dibrugarh University with the District Water Sanitation Committee, Dibrugarh District for the effective implementation of the Swacchh Bharat Mission was organized by District Water sanitation Committee in collaboration with Dibrugarh University on 20th December 2015 on the premises of the University.
Swacchh Bharat Mission (Gramin) which was launched on 2nd October 2014, envisions transforming India into Open Defecation Free (ODF) and clean country within 2nd October, 2019 adopting safe sanitation and hygienic behavior such as construction and use of sanitary toilet, consumption of safe drinking water and its proper storage and hand washing with soap.
The Convention was formally inaugurated by Mr. Subhash Ch. Das, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Public Health and Engineering, Government of Assam, Shri M.S. Manivannan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh District also addressed the convention. A technical Session was also held where presentation on various aspects of the Swacchh Bharat Mission (Gramin) were made by Er. D. K. Mazumder Chief Engineer (PHE) Assam, Sanitation, Sri Ashok Das, Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, PHED, Md. Najibuddin Ahmed, Ms Shweta Patnaik, UNICEF, Guwahati. The Session was chaired by Mr. Subhas ch. Das, IAS and Professor Alak K. Buragohain, the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Dibrugarh University signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Dibrugarh District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC) under the aegis of the Swacchh Bharat Mission to set up Health and Sanitation Clubs initially in 29 colleges of Dibrugarh District affiliated to Dibrugarh University for various activities to implement the mandates of the Swacchh Bharat Mission.
It may be mentioned that Dibrugarh University is the first and the only university in the Country to take up the mandates of the Swacchh Bharat mission through an Official MoU with Swacchh bharat Mission.
Objective and expected outputs of the partnership:
The key objective of this partnership is to expedite the expressed activities to be undertaken in the Dibrugarh District.
Objectives:
(a). Community Mobilization
(b). Capacity development of the stakeholders and Field functionaries engaged with the implementation of Swacchh Bharat Mission (G), at all levels at Key Resource Centre (KRC)
(c). To develop an organized centre for Research and development
(d). To establish vocational/Skill development courses in different centers under Dibrugarh University
(e). Impact analysis and evaluation
(f). Solid and Liquid waste management
(g). Community Sanitary complex
