Renowned flutist Deepak Sarma performs on the campus

Dibrugarh University organized a Jugalbandi of renowned flutist Deepak Sarma and the well known Tabla player Kaushik Konwar on the 8 April, 2016 at Rang Ghar - the University Auditorium. The balmy Friday evening left a remarkable impression upon the august gathering as the swirls of Hindustani Classical Music penetrated the quiet auditorium leaving the audience mesmerized. The programme was initiated by the solo Aalap of Deepak Sarma in the Raga Brindavani Sarang followed by his recital of Jor Aalap and Jor Jhala. His recital was succeeded by a duet whereby Kaushik Konwar joined him in the musical rendition of the evening and enthralled the audience with their performance of Bandish and Gat (Aaddha Teen Taal and Madhya Laya Teen Taal), which was followed by Gat in Drut Teen Taal. The classical music fiesta of the first half came to an end with a performance of the composition called Maand, which is a classical Raga derived from Rajasthani folk music.

After the intermission, the music shifted towards a more contemporary styles. Nostalgic Assamese and Hindi melodies like Shyam teri banshi, Tuhi re, Xondhiyar aakaxot bogolee ure, Xile xile theka khale etc., reigned in the latter part of the evening. The memorable Jugalbandi was concluded by a soulful rendition of a song based on Raag Bhairavi. The illustrious duo was accompanied by Tapan Chakabarty in acoustic guitar and Bittu Singh Sukhi in the keyboard.

The event was attended by the invitees from Dibrugarh town belonging to institutions like Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra, Assam Medical College apart from the University faculty members, officers and students.
