The second semester students of the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication (CSJMC) conducted a public awareness campaign on 7th May, 2016 at Jamira Tinali, a neighbourhood in the vicinity of Dibrugarh University.
The campaign titled “Pðhar Bichari” was organised as a part of their practical classes for the subject of Development Communication. Assistant Professor Abhijit Handique, was the campaign coordinator. The faculty coordinator and the students prepared for over a month to execute this one day campaign.The campaign was aimed at making people aware about the hazardous effects on health and life of the people due to excessive alcohol consumption, illegal liquor scale, illegal alcohol trade and ill effects of alcohol addiction.
As part of the campaign,the students participated in a rally starting from the University campus to Jamira Tinali where they had raised slogans on eradicating alcohol abuse. In the venue, a street play on alcohol abuse was presented by the students. Monuranjan Buragohain and Nabamallik Phukan recited poems on attitude change and alcohol abuse. The students who acted and composed the street play are - Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, Tribeni Gogoi, Rupjyoti Khaklari, Nabamallika Phukan, Utpala Bhuyan, Jimoni Kashyap, Probir Pranjal Phukan, Krishanu Baruah, Ankur Protim Dutta, Champak Hazarika, Shahbaz Ahmed and Joyshree Baruah.
The Gaonburah of Jamira Tinali, the residents of the neighbourhood, the faculty of CSJMC and students of the centre as well as other students of the University were also present. The campaign was well received by both print and electronic media.
