The Back Benchers – A newly constituted group formed by drama enthusiasts of various Departments and Centres of the University staged their first production on the tenth of May in the Rangghar, the University Auditorium. The drama titled Godhulir Gaan, a popular script composed by the renowned dramatist Dr. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology explores the life of an elderly couple, the negligence of three sons toward their dying mother and the greed for property of one daughter-in-law. The drama was directed by Shri Bhujanga Bhushan Sharma, a 6th semester student of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Saikia. The drama beautifully portrays a common conundrum of today’s Assamese society and conveys a consequential message to the audience. The drama was inaugurated by Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Dean, Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University in presence of many eminent guests and was well received by the hundreds present in the auditorium. The Back Benchers look forward to staging the play in other parts of the state in the near future.
