A seven day National Workshop on Research Methodology was organised by the Department of Sociology from 23 May, 2016 with support from the University. More than 50 participants from various parts of the country took part in the Workshop. The Workshop was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Professor Alak K Buragohain. Professor Vinoy Kumar Srivastava, an eminent scholar and presently, the Head of the Department of Anthropology, Delhi University was Chief Guest. In his inaugural remark Professor Buragohain appreciated the effort of the Department in organizing the week long Workshop. He highlighted on the importance of research methodology in meaningful research and called upon the young research workers to define the Research Questions of their work very carefully. Professor Vinoy K Srivastava in his Key note Address stressed upon the ethical issues in research. He drew the attention of the young scholars to the critical importance of meticulous recording of data and in inculcating the art of writing and communicating their work correctly and effectively. Earlier the Head of the Department, Dr. Pranjal Sarmah extended a warm welcome to the participants. In his Welcome Address Dr. Sarmah mentioned about the remarkable response that this Workshop evoked as there were nearly 450 applications for the Workshop from all over the country.
A number of prominent faculty members from Delhi University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati , Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change, Guwahati, Gauhati University and the host University acted as the Resource Persons in the Workshop.
