Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Education, Health and Finance, Government of Assam visited Dibrugarh University on 16th August, 2016 in connection with the felicitation programme of the meritorious students belonging to the Sonowal Kachari Tribe organised by the District Autonomous Council for the Sonowal Kacharis at the University auditorium Rangghar. In a brief interaction after the programme with the Vice Chancellor, the Deans of the Schools, the Dean, Student Affairs, the Dean, R&D, Registrar and the other higher Officials of the University at Vikshan, the Conference Hall at Vishranta, the Dibrugarh University Guest House the Minister took stock of the various activities of the University.
On the matter of the pension to the retired employees of the University he enquired about the total financial involvements per annum and assured that the Government shall consider the proposal realistically which will be announced shortly. The Vice Chancellor impressed upon him for according concurrence to the ad hoc faculty positions at the Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology (DUIET) and the eighteen Centres for Studies. Dr. Sarma assured that the Government shall examine the proposal. The other members present requested for release of grants towards infrastructure developments to this 50 year old University especially for the creation of more girls' hostels, staff quarters and the auditorium. The Registrar of the University, Professor M.N. Dutta submitted to the Minister a Memorandum with all the aforesaid proposals.
