The Publication Division, Dibrugarh University released its latest publications of five books in an event organized at the Aniruddhadev Bhawan, Department of History at 4.30 pm on August 23, 2016. The function attended by teachers, students, research scholars and officers of the University was presided over by Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University. Renowned writer and journalist of Assam Shri Homen Borgohain spoke at length about the duties and obligations of a Publication Cell of a University with reference to the publication of the University Oxford, Cambridge and Yale. Professor Nagen Saikia, an eminent writer and intellectual of Assam, congratulated the authors and spoke of the lack of adequate human resource in Assam for writing quality books. Drawing reference to the oldest University Press in the world, viz., the Oxford University Press in 1478 followed by the Cambridge University Press in 1521, Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain emphasized on the importance book publication by the Universities. He called upon the University fraternity to come forward with their writings for publication by the Dibrugarh University. He also pointed out at the other critical aspect on the marketing of the published books.
Shri Homen Borgohain released the books titled Ethnic Resurgence among the Tai Ahoms of Assam authored by Dr. Tara Nath Dowarah of the Department of Anthropology and Chandrakumar Agarwala authored by Dr. Ananda Bormudoi, Department of English. Another two books entitled Birinchikumar Barua written by Professor Satyakam Borthakur, Department of Assamese and Birendra Kumar Bhattachrayya written by Dr. Arindam Barkataki, Department of English, ADP College, Nagaon were released by Professor Nagen Saikia. Kalyan Bhuyan’s book titled Nicolaus Copernicus was released by Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain.
Earlier, Dr Ananda Bormudoi, Coordinator of the Publication Division welcomed the guests.
Professor Karabi Deka Hazarika, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Pradip Kumar Bhuyan, Director, Centre for Atmospheric Studies, eminent writer Dr. Nirmal Kumar Sahewalla were also present at the function.
