The University Workshop on Digital India was conducted propitiously in the Rangghar auditorium of the University on 20th September, 2016. The programme was organized by the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University in collaboration with National e-Governance Division, an independent division of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, in association with the National Service Scheme, Department of Youth Affairs, Government of India which has been conducting a series of Digital India Workshop in 120 universities across the country in phase wise since the month of February and March, 2016. The motto of the whole project is to Engage, Educate and Empower (EEE) the youths of the country. The objective of this workshop was to link the Digital India Products and Services to the youth of this part of the country as well as to create a pool of Ambassadors (Digi Sewak) comprising the NSS volunteers for spreading the Digital India Programme.
Altogether 220 NSS volunteer participants with 21 NSS Programme Officers from 19 different colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University took part in the programme. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Alak Kr. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University in presence of Professor L.K. Nath, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, Mr. Manjit Nath, Youth Consultant, Ministry of Youth Affairs, GoI, and Mr. Satyakam Dutta, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Dibrugarh. The inaugural function was started with the Dibrugarh University anthem and the NSS song (Uthe Samaj…) followed by the welcome address from Dr. Devid Kardong, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dibrugarh University. In the inaugural speech, Professor Buragohain lucidly described the significance of the programme and also stressed that digitization is one of the way for empowering the youths of this country having more than 65% population under the age group of 35 years in order to empower the nation. Mr. Manjit Nath and Mr. Satyakam Dutta including Prof. L. K. Nath delivered their valuable and inspirational speeches from the dais. Mr. Indranath Chatterji, SeMT, Assam who is instrumental in coordinating this programme had also attended and carried forward the programme after the inaugural session. After the inaugural session, the day long programme was conducted in 3 (three) parts viz,

b) Competition round
c) Student feedback round
The participants were seen highly enthusiastic in taking part in various competitions. Accordingly, in skit Show competition, DDR College, Chabua and Tingkhong College adjudged winner and runner up respectively. In Digital India Quiz, N. B. City College and DHSK College adjudged the winner and runner up respectively. In the poster making competition, Dikhowmukh College and Duliajan Girls College declared winner and the runner up respectively. In the most interesting competitive event “Idea Generation” was adjudged by the Sibsagar College and Tinsukia Women’s College as winner and runner up respectively.
The workshop was concluded with the student’s feedback and prize distribution ceremony at 5.00pm.
