Seventy First Independence Day Celebration

The seventy first Independence Day was celebrated with a day long programme on the campus. The national tricolour was hoisted by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Alak K Buragohain. In his address, Professor Buragohain called upon the young students to dedicate their lives to the development of the nation which earned its independence seventy years ago. Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the freedom struggle for their supreme sacrifices, Professor Buragohain stated that the future of the country is in the hands of the younger generation. The teachers and the elders of the University and the society have the responsibility in enabling the young students to take the country forward by providing them education, skill and guidance.

The students of the various Departments and the Centres for Studies, the Research Scholars and the University NSS volunteers along with the students from the schools of the neighbouring villages and the University Model school presented a colourful March Past with the University and the Model School bands playing the martial music.

The students of the University presented an impressive cultural function on the occasion. Awards were given to the winning school teams in the March Past competition and also to the winning Hostels of the Swachhta Pakhwada competitions organised earlier. Competitions on various themes relating to the celebration of the 75 years of the 'Quit India Movement' and the 70th Anniversary were held in the University auditorium, Rangghar where the students of the schools from the neighbouring villages participated.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor felicitated Mrs Dipanjali Barman a fourth grade contractual employee of the University and the widow of late Dhiren Barman, Carpenter, P&C branch for grooming her daughter Ms. Joyshree in an exemplary way. Joyshree, who joined as a Research Fellow in a project at the Department of Petroleum Technology under the aegis of the Indo-US Twenty First Century Knowledge Initiative, has recently gone to the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, the USA for presenting her research work and also for a brief stint as a research worker in the US.

The Dibrugarh University Research Scholars Association organised an Independence Day Foot Ball Tournament. The final friendly Foot Ball Match of the tournament was played between the combined Vice Chancellor's XI and the Registrar's XI and the School of Education.
