A six day Workshop on Leadership Development and Enhamcement of Communication Skills for implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission was organized by the Key Resource Centre, SBM, Dibrugarh University with support from the UNICEF, Assam. The Workshop was held from 18th to 23rd September, 2017 on the campus which was participated by two student members mainly- NSS Volunteers from every college having Health and Sanitation Clubs (CHSCs) from districts of Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur. Students from the Centre for Studies in Geography, Centre for Studies in Social Work and from Centre for Studies in Mass Communication and Journalism belonging to the Masters Programme of Communication for Sanitation, Hygiene and Health have also participated.
The Key Resource Centre and UNICEF, Assam conducted the Workshop on Leadership and Development in Dibrugarh University for CHSCs of nine districts affiliated to the varsity to encourage students to become future motivators and Change Agents for the Gram Panchyats that the colleges have adopted or are proposing to adopt for implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The six day Workshop was conducted in batches of forty to forty five students for two days each. The outcome of conducting the intensive training for two days was expected to the development of future student motivators and leaders who would guide other students of Dibrugarh University and colleges on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. The students' role as Change Agents will contribute to the active functioning of the College Health Sanitation Clubs that are already working in the colleges of the region.
Dr. Rupam Saikia, Director, College Development Council, Dibrugarh University, Professor Kalpana Deka Kalita, Chairperson, Centre for Studies in Geography and Dr. Nasmeem Farheen Akthar, Chairperson, Centre for Women’s Studies were present during the inaugural session of the Workshop.
Mr. Vineet Barnwal, the Resource Person for the Workshop is a rekonowned trainer, instructor and consultant who has trained over 5000 students and professionals over a decade in the field of Leadership, Motivation, Personality Development and Career Management.
As an extension of the Workshop, Shri Himangshu Bailung and Shri Bitupon Bordoloi, alumni of the University and presently working as the CHSC Zonal Coordinators conducted sessions on WASH and SBM and introduced and informed the participants about their roles as future Change Agents.
The Workshop concluded with a Valedictory Session where the participating students gave their feedback, the organizers shared their thoughts and certificates were distributed to the participants. Dr. Devid Kardong, NSS Programme Coordinator for Dibrugarh University was present to encourage the students of NSS and CHSCs to successfully carry out the activities of Swachh Bharat Mission with the leadership and communication skills training that they have received at the Workshop.
