On the occasion of Global Handwashing Day, a handwashing programme was organized by Mercy Corps India across eight Tea Estates on October 15, 2017. Mr. Ankit Sen, Ms. Anjelina Buragohain, Ms. Chayanika Konwar, Mr. Amchao Phe Tumten students of Dibrugarh University participated in the event at the Tippuk Tea Estate.
A total of 1282 students and 38 teachers from 8 Tea Estates participated in the programme which was also attended by personnel from the Tea Estate Management including Medical Officers and guardians of the students. As a part of the Mercy Corps India’s initiative in raising awareness on health and hygiene, School Wash programmes would be conducted in the future along with the proposed construction of toilets in 6 Tea Estates within the next two years. Dibrugarh University shall continue to extend the necessary support and assistance to the handwashing programme in Assam.
Moreover the Centre for Studies in Geography, Dibrugarh University observed the Global Hand Washing day with a massive drive to create awareness on health, hygiene and environment within the University Campus. In total 366 students and faculty member became a part of this Global event.
