Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was observed at Dibrugarh University on 31st October to commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. To mark the occasion day long activities and events were organised by the University. At 6.00 am in the morning a Run for Unity was flagged off by Professor Alak K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor. Professor Buragohain was also participating in the run addressed the students teachers and employees who took part in the Unity Run and recalled the enormous contribution of Sardar Patel in the formation of Independent India. Professor Jiten Hazarika, Dean, Students Affairs, Professor Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Department of Sociology, Dr. Mantu Baro, Director, Dibrugarh University Sports Board, Dr. H.S. Atwal, Chairperson, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports and students from various Departments and Centre for Studies took part in the 'Unity Run'.
An Elocution Competition on the contribution of Sardar Patel in the making of free India was organised by the Department if the Political Science. A good number of students participated in the competition. The programme was conducted by Dr. Borun Dey, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
The concluding function was held at the Indira Miri Conference Hall in the afternoon. There was an oration on the ‘Relevance and Importance of Sardar Patel in To-days’s India’, presented by two students and Dr. Borun Dey, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science of the University. The oration was chaired by Professor Jiten Hazarika, Dean, Students Affairs of the University. Students from various Departments and Centre for Studies participated in the programme. The programme ended with a Vote of Thanks offered by Miss Deny Borah, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Physical Education and Sports.
