The 1st Dibrugarh University Inter College Karate Competition was held from 5th to 6th January, 2018 at Bhimbor Deori Indoor Stadium of Dibrugarh University, the first North Eastern University to introduce karate as a Sports Event on its campus. The event was inaugurated by Professor Alak K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh. In his address, Professor Buragohain stressed upon the importance of sports as career and the need of sports in the process of growing up a healthy society. Total 60 numbers of participant out of 15 Colleges under Dibrugarh University participated in the Karate Competition. Profesor Pallavi Deka Buzarbaruah, Department of Assamese, Dr. Probin Kumar Gogoi, Head, Department of Education and President of DUTA, Dr. Binod Ch. Borah, Deputy Registrar (Academic), Mr. Ruhini Buragohain, Assistant Registrar (Admin.), Mr. Nagen Bongang, General Secretary, UKAA, Mr. Bolin Ch. Nath, President of DUEA, were present in the ceremony as Guest of Honour. Dr. Manto Baro, Director of Sports in-charge, Dibrugarh University Sports Board, welcomed all the delegates and participants on behalf of Dibrugarh University. The function was hosted by Mr. Anjan Chetia, Observer of Inter College Karate Competition and General Secretary of DUEA.
In the prize distribution ceremony Dr. Manto Baro, Mr. Satya Changmai, Assistant Professor, Physical Education and Sports, Mr. Bimal Ch. Gogoi, Sub Divisional Sports Officer, Dibrugarh District, Mr. Nogen Bongjang, General Secretary, UKAA and other official members were present.
