The 21st Edition of the Dibrugarh University Colloquium was held on February 2, 2018 on the topic ‘Learning: The Treasure Within’, at the Indira Miri Conference Hall of the University. The speaker of the Colloquium was Sri Diganta Biswa Sarma, a former State Civil Service Officer, Government of Assam.
In his talk, Sri Sarma emphasised on to be a perfect human rather than a successful human, citing examples of Ekalabya, Newton and Nasiketa. He stressed upon the point of mushrooming of the Educational Institutions as these institutions produces people which are literally running after satisfying their pecuniary needs. Being a follower of Sri Sri Ramkrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Sri Sri Arabindo, Sri Sarma urged that the spirit of Diksha and Shraddha – the two key ingredients drawn from the learning of Sri Sri Arabindo and Swami Vivekananda should be promoted amongst the students to develop their mindset. Sri Sarma also encouraged the teaching fraternity to overcome the existing limitations of educational institutions by taking a pro active role in initiating new pedagogies based on Indian values and increasing interdepartmental cooperation within the structural format and to go beyond to promote the learning of human values so that everyone can enjoy the Treasure Within.
The talk ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Brishni Borkotoky, Assistant Professor, Centre for Management Studies, Dibrugarh University.
