National Productivity Week

The National Productivity Week has been celebrated throughout the country during the second week of February every year to spread the message of importance, need, scope and direction of Productivity Movement. This year the event was celebrated from 12th February to 18th February, 2018. The theme for the Productivity Week 2018 was “Industry 4.0, Leapfrog Opportunity for India”.

As a part of this movement, the School of Commerce and Management Sciences, Dibrugarh University in association with Assam Productivity Council, Tinsukia had organized a series of events. In the first phase, the School had organized an essay competition among the students of the school on 15th February, 2018 on the topic, “Use of Artificial Intelligence in Industry: Indian Perspective”. 16 students from Management, 26 students from Commerce and 8 students from Economics had participated in the contest.

On 21st February, 2018 a talk was arranged at New conference Hall of Centre for Management Studies where Professor Ashit Saha of Department of Commerce had delivered a talk on the theme “Industry 4.0- what it matters”. While going through the historical perspective of Industrial Revolution 1.0 to 4.0, he provide an insight view on the significant convergence of Human and Technology and its reflection in Business, Commerce and Trade. While uttering the ground realities of the fourth industrial revolution, he apprehend about India’s preparedness towards active participation in the revolution. “Mindset need to be changed, followed by the infrastructural amenities and facilities. This revolution has to address the welfare of the society and the nation”, he added.

Mr. B. P. Bakshi, Chairman, Assam Productivity Council had graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he particularly requested the students to be active to accept the change. “We have missed the chance to be the leader in all the three previous industrial revolutions, but this is now or never situation for us,” he added.

Along with Mr. Bakshi, Professor Saha had also joined to distribute the Prizes to the winners of the Essay Competition. Ms. Chumki Handique of Department of Economics, Mr. Manas Bhattacharjee of Center for Management Studies and Ms. Sudishna Ghosh of Department of Commerce were adjudged First, Second and Third position. Further, Mr. Saurish Bhattacharjee of Department of Economics and Ms. Mampi Das of Department of Commerce were awarded with consolation prize. The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Chimun Kumar Nath in association with Dr. Aradhana Borthakur, Mr. Gautom Borthakur and Dr. Suman Mahanta,  from the School of Commerce and Management Sciences, Dibrugarh University.
