A three day International Conference on the 'Emerging Trends in Chemical Sciences-2018' was organised by the Department of Chemistry of Dibrugarh University from February 26 to 28, 2018. The Conference was organised as a part of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee Year of the Department. More than 300 participants and experts from within and outside the country participated in the various sessions during the conference. Several eminent scientists from the University of York, the UK, Kyoto University, Tokyo, University of Wurzburg, Germany, Humboldt University, Germany, Lund University, Sweden, Ruhr University, Germany, Kennesaw State University, USA.

Professor E.D. Jemmis and Professor Balaji Jagirdar from IISc Bangalore and Professor T. Pal from IIT Kharagpur and Professor S. Sarkar, former Professor of IIT Kanpur and presently Professor at IIEST Shibpur were among the notable Indian Scientists who delivered special lectures during the conference. Posters were presented by the scholars from within the country and abroad including scholars from countries like Hungary, Mauritius, etc,. Foreign Delegate ChemInaugurating the three International Conference Professor A.K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University drew attention to some of the critical problems encountered by the world today, viz. climate change and natural disaster where the knowledge and skills of Chemistry are urgently necessary for sustainable solutions. Professor Buragohain also called upon for engagement in research in Chemistry Education for effective pedagogy.

Professor Bhabesh Ch. Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Cotton University attended the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Professor Goswami highlighted upon the recent trends in Chemical Science research. Earlier Professor Pankaj Das, Head, Department of Chemistry, extended a hearty welcome to the delegates.

 

Several important academic collaborations between Dibrugarh University and other participating Universities from abroad were explored in the discussions.
