The University fraternity mourned the passing away of Stephen Hawking, one of the brilliant minds of the century on 14th March, 2018 at Cambridge, England. The Dibrugarh University Research Scholar Association organised a central condolence meeting on 14th evening where faculty members and research scholars of the University spoke about the brilliant contributions of Hawking in deepening our understanding of the Universe. Rich tributes were also paid by the students and the faculty members of the Department of Physics in a separate memorium organised in the Department.
In an obituary note Professor A. K. Buragohain stated that Professor Stephen Hawking's demise marks an end to a very exciting era in realm of science today.
