Lecture Session on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation and Start-Ups

IPR DUIETAn expert talk on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation and Start-Ups was organized by the Startup Cell, DUIET under Start-Up activities of TEQIP-III on April 25, 2018 in the Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology premises. The talk was delivered by Professor Prabuddha Ganguli, CEO, VISION-IPR and Scientific Consultant for Innovation and IPR matters to the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India and a member of the Advisory Board of the International Intellectual Property Institute, Washington. The session started with an introductory speech delivered by Mr. Abhijit Boruah, Assistant Professor, DUIET and Faculty Coordinator, Startup Cell.

Professor Ganguli emphasized on the importance of patents, copyrights and related matters in current age innovations. He discussed about the change in pattern of innovation from thousands of years back where inventions were tangible to the present day intangible innovations and how IPR laws changed with time accordingly. Professor Ganguli concluded his session with much information on recent Artificial Intelligence systems powered by Neural Networks and Deep Learning and how lot of efforts are being made to introduce new laws governing such systems for their smooth functioning and usage in the society and current technological market. His speech was followed by an interactive session where students exchanged their views with him and cleared their doubts on startup and innovation related matters.

The session was attended by faculties and students of the engineering institute. The valedictory remarks was delivered by Mr. Kaushik Das, Assistant Professor, DUIET and Coordinator, TEQIP-III.
