Gaurav Sanimilito Samaj (GSS) in association with Dibrugarh University (DU) NSS PG Unit and in collaboration of Key Resource Center (DU) and Swachh Bharat Mission (NAMASTE) Assam, a Safai Abhijan program was taken up at Bogibeel Bridge, on February 11, 2019. The move aimed at raising consciousness levels on dumping of plastic and polythene carriers by the vehicles plying to and fro over the bridge. Preserving the newly inaugurated Asia’s Longest Bridge over Mighty Brahmaputra from being a dumping zone, the members of Dibrugarh University Research Scholar Association (DURSA) undertook this cleanliness drive, in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Sri Pallav Gopal Jha; the Joint Registrar (Academic) of DU, Dr. Binod Borah; DHS Kanoi College Principal and State Ambassador Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), Sri Sasi Kanta Saikia; Scientist and Big Data Analyst from Munich, Germany, Dr. Tabiyas Arhad; President of Gaurav Sanmilito Samaj, Bhaskarjyoti Baruah and Secretary of GSS, Sri Pranjit Kalita; DU Professor, Dr. Pradip Kumar Bhuyan; Former Professor, Dr. Nirmali Bhuyan; Dr. Upasana Bhuyan; Professor of Kanoi College, Dr. Nitumoni Saikia; Professor Krishnakshi Saikia, Sri Ujjal Kalita; Members of Green Club of Kanoi College, Apurba Sarmah, Ronit Dey and Anupam Dutta .
The initiative taken by the authorities of DU, students and SBM State Ambassador Dr. Sasi Kanta Saikia, amidst the Saraswati Puja celebrations, was immensely applauded by DC Sri Pallav Gopal Jha. The Deputy Commissioner, have appealed to the people to share their suggestions in transforming the Bogibeel Bridge and the District into a pristine dirt free and spotless place of visit.
With the participation of the concerned group of people, the Safai Abhjijan was fruitfully carried out from Dibrugarh to Dhemaji of Bogibeel Bridge. Later, during the event, GSS President and Secretary, Bhaskarjyoti Baruah and Pranjit Kalita, respectively, put forwarded their views.
Earlier, German tourist, Dr. Tabiyas Arhad, while heaping praises on the program assumed to clean Bogibeel Bridge said that citizens’ participation in keeping their country clean is a rare personal experience of his life. Dr. Arhad, who actively took part in the cleanliness drive, urged upon the people to keep the bridge dirt and trash free. Later, on the sidelines of the program, he interacted with SBM State Ambassador, Dr. Saikia. Banners and posters were also displayed to mark the event.
