Seventy Third Independence Day Celebrated at DU

The 73rd Independence Day of the nation was celebrated at Dibrugarh University on 15th August, 2019. Professor Ranjit Tamuli, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering. In his speech he focused on overall developmental aspects of the University. The Hon’ble Vice-chancellor along with Dr. H. C. Mahanta, Registrar of the University took the ceremonial salute in the march past displayed by the teams representing various academic departments/centres, DU Security Personnel, neighboring schools and the band from the University Model School. The deans, faculty members, officers, students, research scholars, employees and a large number of people from the neighboring villages participated in the Independence Day celebration.
In the march past competition (school level) Barpather Girls High School got first prize, Dibrugarh University Model School class VII B and VIII B achieved 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. On the other hand, amongst the various departments and centres of studies of the University, the Department of Political Science got first and DUIET achieved 2nd prize. Centre for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and DU Security team jointly got 3rd position.
On this occasion, Martial arts skill was also demonstrated by International Taekwondo medalist Sujit Singha and All India Inter University and National medalist Puja Rani Bora, Bitupan Gowala and other students of Centre for studies in Physical Education and Sports. Cultural program with the theme of patriotism was also presented by the students of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Performing arts and children of Dibrugarh University Mahila Chara. In the Intramural Football Competition Faculty of Science and Engineering won the title defeating Administrative Branch. Three security personnel of Dibrugarh University namely Manik Cheita, Mr. Sanjib Gogoi nad Mr. Utpal Handique were awarded citation for their excellent service. The prizes were distributed by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, Dean of Student Affairs Prof. Nirode Boruah and former Registrar Prof. M. N. Dutta.
