An international conference on Game Theory and Networks has been organized recently by the Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University in collaboration with the Economics Department of Queen’s University, Belfast, UK during 6-9 September 2019. The conference was a part of the three year long prestigious collaborative project between Prof. Surajit Borkotokey of Dibrugarh University and Dr. Rajnish Kumar of Queen’s University, UK funded by Council. The conference featured a number of internationally renowned Mathematicians and Economists who presented their works in the fields of Mechanism Design, Social Choice Theory, Network Economics and Cooperative Games. The most prominent among them were, Prof. Sanjeev Goyal from the University of Cambridge, UK, Prof. Arunava Sen, ISI-Delhi, Prof. Michel Grabisch and Prof. Agnieszka Rusinowska both from the University of Paris (I), France, Prof. Indrajit Ray from The Cardiff University, UK, Dr. Sinan Ertemel from Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Genjiu Xu from Northwestern Polytechnic University and his two students, Dr. Rajnish Kumar from Queen’s University, Belfast, UK, Dr. Saurav Bhattacharyaa from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK and many more from various Indian institutions including ISI-Kolkata, IIT-Bombay, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIT-Indore, TERI, Ashoka University etc.
In recent years, Game theory has emerged as an interdisciplinary branch bringing together researchers from Mathematics, Economics, Management, Political Science, Networks and Computer Science, Engineering, Quantum Physics, Biological Sciences, Ecology and Environmental Sciences. The aim of this workshop was therefore, to provide a common platform to the researchers working in diverse disciplines to share their recent researches. The conference had a total of 25 oral presentations from the invited speakers and 16 poster presentations from the research scholars from various institutions of India and abroad.
UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) started in April 2006 with the aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK. UKIERI projects are funded from the UK by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Council, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and Depart- ment for Economy; and from India by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department for Science and Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education.
The event witnessed a bunch of prospective research scholars who have been engaged in serious research at different Indian institutions in the areas of Game Theory and Networks. The poster presentations sessions of these researchers were found to be very fruitful as all the eminent invited speakers were seen in these sessions engaged in threadbare interactions with the young researchers. The organizers announced two awards for the best poster presenters in order to encourage them for further improvements. Ms. Maniparna Karmakar of ISI, Kolkata and Mr. Pramod Mane of IIM, Indore were selected for these awards.
The event was the third of its kind in the Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University under the aegis of UKIERI. Organizing such events on regular basis, producing quality researchers from the Department of Mathematics, Dibrugarh University with such international exposure, and the overwhelming responses from the eminent gathering from both within and outside India have indicated that Dibrugarh University now finds a place in the global map of Game Theory and Networks.
