The 67th Independence day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety on the campus of Dibrugarh University. The central function was organized at the University playground where the national flag was hoisted by Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice-Chancellor. 24 groups of students presented a splendid March Past along with a band from the pupils of the Dibrugarh University Model School. Professor Buragohain, in his address to the large gathering recalled the ancient history, rich traditions and the unique, diverse culture of our nation. He called upon the young generation to study the life work and the visionary leadership of our leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and others.
There was an ‘on the spot painting’ competition amongst the school children of the University and neighbourhood communities. The friendly football match played as a part of the celebration between the VC’s XI and Registrar’s XI was won by the latter. The film “Piyoli Phukan” was screened at Rang-ghar - the University auditorium; inter hostel volleyball competition and Wall Magazine competition at the Padmanath Gohain Barua Chatra Nivas were some of the other events organized on the occasion of the Independence Day and the anniversary of Padmanath Gohain Barua Chatra Nivas.
