The first Late Rajani Kanta Chowdhury Memorial Annual Endowment Award was presented to Miss Ananya Baruah, who secured the highest CGPA in the M.A. Programme in History in the 2011-2013 batch, at a function organized by the Department of History at the Shri Shri Aniruddhadeva Bhawan on 5th September, 2013. The award consists of a citation and a cash award of Rs. 10,000/-. The function was presided over by Prof. Dambarudhar Nath. Mr. Arinjit Hazarika, Academic Officer of DU in his speech expressed that the endowment has been instituted with very noble objectives by the son of Late Rajani Kanta Chowdhury, Lt. Col. M. Chowdhury. The family of Late Rajani Kanta Chowdhury was represented by his grand daughters Bulbul Chowdhury, Bratati Bhattacharji and grandson-in-law Mr.Hirok Bhattacharji.Mr. Hirok Bhattacharji in his speech gave a life sketch of Late Rajani Kanta Chowdhury and highlighted his passion for history and his unfulfilled dream of publishing a ‘History of the Ahom Kingdom’ while serving as an Assistant Political Officer of the NF Railway at Sadiya. The Head, Department of History, Prof. Jahnabi Gogoi Nath profusely thanked the family members of Late Rajani Kanta Chowdhury for their generous endowment. In his presidential remarks, Prof. Nath expressed that the award marks a milestone in the history of the Department of History in the Golden Jubilee Year of the university. He also expressed the hope that more and more students would be attracted to the discipline of history. The function was well attended by students and research scholars.
