One day institutional Seminar on “Live-in Relationship: Its socio-legal implication” is organized by Centre for Juridical Studies, Dibrugarh University on 20th March, 2014. Inaugurating the seminar the Director of the Centre Dr. S. R. Mohapatra said that despite legal legitimacy, live- in relationships are largely perceived to be immoral and it is a fad having its presence in most urban areas andit is a product of western culture. Mrs. Mehnaj Ahmed Akhtar, faculty member of the Centre while presenting the key-note address dealt with in detail the various laws relating to the subject and judicial decisions and its legal and social ramifications. Other faculty members of the Centre also presented their seminar paper and valuable suggestions. Students from LLM and BALLB also put forth their views in favour and against live-in relationship. All the participants were of the opinion that the time is not ripe to adopt to such a concept in the present Indian social scenario rather to protect, promote and preserve the social norms and values. Seminar was attended by all the students of the Centre. Finally Sourav Sonowal, Departmental Representative proposed the vote of thanks
