Capacity Building Workshop on Climate Modelling
A six day ‘Capacity Building Workshop Modelling ‘on Climate Modelling was organized by the Centre for Atmospheric Studies on 29th December 2014. The workshop was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Buragohain at the seminar hall of the centre. Prof. P.K. Bhuyan, the Co-ordinator of the workshop extended a warm welcome to the Resource persons and the participants and highlighted the objectives of the workshop which was organized under the DRS Phase II of the Special Assistance Programme of the UGC. He also referred to the more than two decades of engagement of the Centre for Atmospheric Studies with space and atmospheric research in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bangaluru, the pioneering organisation of space research in the country. The Vice Chancellor in his inaugural speech stated that climate change has multiple dimensions and call for shifts in our strategies in agriculture, economics, science and technology, politics etc. to cope with the problems of climate change which is anthropogenic. Dr. Kundanlal Shrestha from Kathmandu University, Nepal and Dr. Rohit Srivastava from the Centre for Climate and Societal Impacts Research, Mandvi, Ahmedabad, presented an overview of the climate change research and pointed out at the requirement of the high end computational facilities for data analysis with multidisciplinary integrated research approach. Special lectures and hands on interactive programmes are organised for the participants of the workshop which will conclude on 3rd January, 2015. The inauguration of the workshop was also attended by Prof. L.K. Nath, Dean, School of Science and Engineering and Prof. Pradip Barua, Dean, Research and Development.
