OBITUARY
The Dibrugarh University faculty members, Non-teaching employees and the students paid rich tribute to Late Janaki Ballabh Patnaik who passed away at Tirupati during the early hour on 21st April, 2015. Late J.B Patnaik was the Chancellor of the University during 2009-2014, and was the former Governor of Assam. Several speakers paid homage to the former Chancellor by remembering different facets of his great personality and his association with Dibrugarh University. Professor Pramathesh Bhattacharyya in his speech pointed out that amongst the many memorable work done by Shri J.B Patnaik a few stands out remarkably, -- was his initiative in making the Kirtan Ghar at Barpeta open for the women folk, and the other one for his great contribution and leadership in creating a spiritual centre for all religion at the Jagannath Temple in Dibrugarh. Professor Alak K Buragohain, the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, who presided over the meeting reminisced his personal association with Late J.B Patnaik and stated that Patnaik had an enormous personality with rare qualities of humanism. He stated that J.B Patnaik was not only a Politician Statesmen with outstanding qualities but also was a great scholar and litterateur. The meeting ended with a condolence resolution and 2 minutes silence with prayer for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
