The Centre for Women's Studies of Dibrugarh University is organising a 6 day Workshop on 'Oral History And Visual History' in collaboration with Sound and Picture Archives for Research on Women (SPARROW), the Mumbai based NGO which has been relentlessly working on collecting oral history and visual material from all over India and the entire South East Asia with its firm commitment towards bringing in positive change in society through understanding women's lives, history and struggles for self-respect and human dignity.
The Workshop was formally inaugurated by Professor Alak K Buragohain, the Vice Chancellor which was also addressed by Dr. C S Lakshmi, one of the founders of the SPARROW. "There is an urgent need for deepening our understanding and appreciation of the feminine sensitivity in all its dimensions besides raising a voice against gender violation, discrimination and deprivation", said Professor Buragohain, while inaugurating the Workshop. Dr. Lakshmi expressed her hope that the issues that will be discussed and subjected to critical analyses during the Workshop shall be taken further with continuous research and activities by the Centre for Women's Studies of the University.
Earlier, Professor Daisy Bora Talukdar, Director i/c of the Centre extended a warm welcome to Dr. C.S Lakshmi, Ms. Pooja Pandey of SPARROW and all participants and invitees while Professor Chandan Sarma of the Department of History presented a brief introduction of SPARROW and its founder member eminent scholar and activist Dr. C.S. Lakshmi.
